about Our Organization
Tanya Kiesha Thompson is the founder and executive director of Breakthrough Pet Family Services, a non-profit organization based in White Plains, NY, established in June 2023. The organization is unique in that it provides case management services to low-income families with pets in need.
Tanya is a lifelong pet owner and pet care professional, with over a decade of experience in the pet care industry in roles such as animal shelter volunteer, veterinary assistant, and dog walking/pet sitting business owner. It was through these personal and professional experiences that she came upon the idea of pet case management.
Many years ago, Tanya found herself often lacking adequate financial resources for pet food and veterinary care. Pet behavioral issues also posed a challenge that she felt ill-equipped to handle. When attempting to seek help, she was often met with judgement and only minimal support from animal shelters and rescues.
In her professional life, she noticed that many families struggled with the same difficulties, and that many of those families were like herself, of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) backgrounds.
Now, Tanya, with the help of dedicated volunteers, is working to address these issues through Breakthrough Pet Family Services.
Our goal is to give low-income families and their pets the compassionate support they need to keep their pets at home and out of over-crowded, resource strapped shelters.
